Christmas Eve Boxes - A new tradition

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

Christmas is such a magical time for children and the excitement in our house always reaches fever pitch on Christmas Eve. For a few years now we have had one of Santa's elves come and stay with us through December to keep an eye on the kids and report any naughtiness back to the big man himself. In the afternoon of the 24th, Buddy always goes back to the North Pole to help Father Christmas get ready for his big night but before he goes he always leaves the children with a box packed full of goodies to help them enjoy the night before Christmas.

This new tradition seems to be catching on now and becoming a big hit with families but the big question is - what should you put in your Christmas Eve Box? Here are some ideas that don't break the bank!

Christmas Pyjamas
There is nothing cosier than settling down to watch a Christmas film in brand new fluffy pj's or a onsie. You can pick up very cute ones these days from many low cost clothing chains, we get our from Primark. You can also add in Christmas socks for extra cosiness!

Christmas Movie
This is a must in our household and the film of choice is normally Home Alone followed by the Snowman. Both these DVD's get recycled in the box box every year so no additional cost

Snacks
You can't watch a film without a few naughty treats so a bag of popcorn or a box of chocolates always features in our boxes.

Snowman Soup
The perfect drink for Christmas Eve! Fill small plastic bags with chocolate powder, marshmallows and a candy cane for the children to make their own hot chocolates.

Reindeer Food
As well as putting out a treat for Rudolph with Santa's sherry we also sprinkle the lawn with porridge oats laced with edible glitter so that the moonlight shines on the glitter showing Santa where he should land his sleigh. you can easily make these yourself or pick them up fairly cheaply from online retailers.

Bedtime Story
Again this is something you can recycle year on year. We wrap and add a couple of Christmas themed books so last thing before bed you can read the children a Christmas story.
