Plastic waste - A worldwide problem
0 Comments

It is undeniable that single use plastic is becoming a bigger and bigger problem. By now, it is almost impossible not to have seen the pictures and videos of the world’s oceans choked with plastic waste, or beaches strewn with litter. Although it is clear that the problem will require intervention from world governments or perhaps some of the multi-national corporations who have the money available to spend on a clean up project, there are still things we can all do to help.

Plastic waste in the ocean

Every time we throw away a drink bottle or carrier bag, rather than recycle them, we are adding to the problem. These plastics are not biodegradable, so once they hit landfill sites they are basically going to stay there forever. However, they are recyclable and every effort should be made to recycle plastics, or just not use them at all.

Now this might not seem very relevant coming from a wholesale party company, but last time your son or daughter went to a party, did they get a party bag? And what did you do with the bag once all the toys and sweets were gone? Did you just throw it away or did you go to the effort of find out whether it could go in your council recycling bin? Well, let me save you the effort – they can!

Wholesale Party Bags

At least, the ones you buy from us can. Our plastic wholesale party bags are made from a substance called Polypropylene, or PP for short. Although, as with most other plastics, it is not biodegradable, PP is recyclable and can be made into a whole array of new products ranging from car parts and lab equipment to rope and bank notes. It might not seem like much, but think about how many pupils are in your child’s class. Let’s say there are twenty kids in the class, and they each have a party, and every child is invited to every party. That makes four hundred plastic party bags that can either find their way into landfill or the ocean, or be recycled and used as something else. And that is just one class, from one school, in one year.

Alternatively, if you want to avoid the plastic option all together, you can go down the paper route. We supply not only paper party bags in an array of designs, but also cardboard party boxes and smaller treat boxes. They are all made from materials that are fully safe to use with exposed foods (like that nice big slice of birthday cake) and are even easier to recycle than the plastic counterparts.

It might not seem like much, but if we all start doing these little things as a matter of course, we might just be able to turn the tide on the issue and keep this ever-increasing avalanche of plastic from burying the natural beauty of our world.
